Northern Tier MN TRiO Day 2010

The Northern Tier TRiO Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2010, and our theme is “Go For It!” Our featured speaker for the day is Tou Ger Xiong. Xiong holds a degree from Carleton College in Northfield, MN. In 1996, he created “Project Respectism”, an educational service project that uses comedy, storytelling, and rap music to bridge cultures and generations. Since then, Project Respectism has evolved into a program that provides cultural entertainment and education for people of all professions and backgrounds. Professionals refer to him as the first Hmong comedian, bilingual storyteller, and consultant on multicultural issues. Young people know him as the Hmong version of Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, and Snoop Doggy Dogg. All stir-fried into one.
We will also be offering many different breakout sessions for students to choose from. Each student will be able to attend three breakout sessions. The enclosed Breakout Session Choice Form allows your students to make their top five choices. Enclosed is one Breakout Session form. Please make copies for each of your students attending Trio Day and send the breakout session forms back with your registration. We will place students in breakout sessions based on their choices and session capacity.
Below, you will find specific information regarding the day. Below are a few points of interest:
- Please take time to nominate one of your students for a TRiO Day Leadership award. This award is unique to the Northern Tier TRiO Day and accompanies a savings bond!
- All students will be asked to attend the college fair. We have asked colleges to bring information about their undergraduate and graduate programs.
- You will be expected to pay for the amount of students you register (no refunds).
Please return your registration form, student breakout session choice forms, and payment (made out to MN TRiO) by February 5, 2010.
